Checklist For Sellers

In preparing your home to sell, ask yourself if your house looks like it is in move-in condition. Homes in move-in condition tend to be inviting to buyers; houses that have little for a buyer to change typically sell the fastest and procure the best price. With that in mind, here are a few things to consider when getting ready to sell:

  • Ensure there is fresh air in house (avoiding such odours as pets or cooking)
  • During daytime showings, keep drapes open to let in daylight
  • For evening showings, leave lights on in the whole house
  • In the winter; walks, porches & decks need to be shoveled and salted if required
  • Lawns and hedges should be cut & trimmed and garden weeded & edged.
  • Your porch/deck and foyer need to be clean and tidy
  • Doorbell and door hardware need to be in good repair
  • The house number should be easy to read from the road
  • Chipped plaster/drywall needs to be repaired & painted
  • Clean all windows, inside & out
  • Keep hallways and stairs uncluttered
  • Appliances and countertops need to be neat and clean
  • Ensure floors are cleaned and garbage containers emptied
  • Keep inside of closets and cupboards neat and tidy
  • Any leaky taps and toilets repaired
  • Any burned out light bulbs replaced
  • Any squeaky doors need to be oiled
  • All mirrors, fixtures and taps need to be cleaned and polished
